Jaheira problem: Dermin not spawning

I didn't let Jaheira join my party in Irenicus's dungeon. So she was
waiting by the Harper compound in Athkatla. I left her there and did
all the other quests in Chapter 2. I spoke to Xzar on day 3 after
dropping Renfield off with Rylock, but I went and did loads of other
stuff so it wasn't until day 89 that I actually entered the Harper
compound and got the bird and brought it back to Xzar. After he died I
took Jaheira into the party, and Meronia appeared immediately and took
her away. She came back 8 hours (1 rest) later and we went and killed
Galvarey. Then we did the Baron Ployer quest while waiting for Reviane
to appear. In due course she did (on day 95, exactly 5 days after we
killed Galvarey), and this is where the problem starts. Whether we
fight Reviane or not, Dermin does not appear a few days later as he is
supposed to. I've visited and rested in every city district and every
outdoor area (in both cases) and it just never happens.

I was told that him appearing is not dependent on the Jaheira romance,
but maybe it is? Some sources seem to indicate that it is (eg.

FWIW, JaheiraRomanceActive is 1 (which it should be) and Jaheira's
LoveTalk variable is 4 (which it shouldn't be - according to that link
above Reviane shouldn't appear until LT reaches 34). The value of 4 is
correct though - we've only had the one exchange ("Where to now,
fearless leader?").

So, can anybody tell me why this is happening? Is there some other
prerequisite to Dermin appearing? I can't find any other condition in
any of the web sources, but do tell if you know of one.

Also, why isn't the LoveTalk incrementing? Is it because Reviane has
already been and gone??

Grateful if anyone could help with this - I'm not overly fussed about
the romance, I just want to get the Harper pin (without cheating). I
have several saves so could go right back to pre-Meronia if that would
help.

I can say I've only done the Jaheria romance once, and have had Dermin

didn't appear was in the romance, had to SK the LT past that one, it got
stuck and kept looping during the Dermin appear talk)I think Dermin
appearing in a romance is tied to a certain lovetalk number otherwise
it doesn't require a certain number, and IIRC the Dermin talk is ~32 so
you have quite a way to go if your only on 4.
You could always try 'skipping' a few LT's or advance the timer,
there's a romance guide here

Thank you - that did it. It's LT40 for his first appearance, not 32. I
used

CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("LoveTalk","LOCALS","39") on Jaheira and then the
command you gave, and then the LT40 dialog happened ("There is an ill
wind in the air"), followed by Dermin appearing.

I then had to trigger the LT52 dialog to get him to come back, after
which Jaheira leaves the party. After getting her back it's the LT56
dialog to trigger Dermin's final appearance, and the LT70 dialog to get
Terminsel and the harper pin.

So there is obviously a very close link between the romance and the
harper pin. I suspect (though I've not tried this) that if you kill the
romance altogether (so that the JaheiraRomanceActive variable goes to
3) then the harper pin quest can continue independent of the romance -
which is probably what happened in your other games. My problem was
that I'd had the first LT dialog and answered pleasantly, so the
romance was still active and the quest was not continuing past Reviane
until the LT caught up.

I know you can get the H/P without the romance,I usually set the RA to 3
manually (right after the 'where to fearless leader' talk) and don't run
the romance. The SK number incements 2 for each LT so the LT number is
double the number shown in that faq. There's another romance guide thats
a word doc that has them numbered with the SK numbers, I thought I found
it over at sorcerers.net but not sure, that one gives the full dialogs,
full responses and all, and when that variables change.
I read an explanation that when the timer expires the LT number goes to
an odd number, then the LT occurs, then increments to the even number,
and starts the timer again, when the timer expires it starts another ~30
second timer to actually trigger the talk, probebly time to stop what
you're doing at the moment, so in the one case of yours, the timer
expired (or you set it to 39) the talk occured it bumped it to 40 (the
SK number) then then timer expires takes it ot 41 for the next LT, and
42 after the talk.
